Today I had a student come for a visit and this story came up in the conversation so I figured it was time to post it again. Todays conversation ended up with me at the kitchen counter cutting up fruits and vegetables in different ways and then the deep recognition of how the taste changes when we perceive things differently. Many paths all leading back to the same thing. Heres the story... I was getting a platter of fruit ready to enjoy on a VERY hot northern CA day. Georg stood at the counter and watched me as I prepared the fruit. All of a sudden he said, what is that? and I said. what??? as I thought...ummmm...you dont know what fruit is He replied, that long one with the beautiful tiny dots in the middle. I responded, you mean the bananas? as I thought, WOW, this guy has never seen a banana...hmmm He responded, thats not a banana...they dont look like that...? Again, I thought...hmmmmmm ....must be a German/Italian, English/Oman/ Californian things because this looks like a banana to me... Perspective!!! He had never seen a banana cut this way! What a innocent and joyous moment when I taught Georg about perspective with something simple like a banana
