Today I had an encounter with an elderly lady. I was relating some difficulties to her and told her some of my problems had a spiritual cause. She said something many are taught to believe in church, but its root is false. She said to me: the bible says you have to make a way for yourself, then God will help you and provide more ways. Essentially she was saying, God helps those who help themselves. So I proceeded to tell her the bible doesnt say that. It says that God will deliver you from all of your troubles (Ps 34:19) and that you arent to lean on your own understanding but trust in God (Pr 3:5-6). She was surprised that I challenged her. But you see, I have to defend the gospel of Christ. Nevertheless, I am going to say to you, too many people have DIED trying to make a way for themselves. Many of you are experiencing difficulties in your life right now because what you thought was faith was disobedience. It was disobedience because of failure to inquire of the Lord as Proverbs 3:5 says. Before you engage in any activity, whether it is becoming involved with a man or woman in a relationship, moving to a different place, what career or job to choose, business deals, what church to attend, even where you are going for the day, ask God first. And if you dont have an answer, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT until He shows you the way. Many of you are in wilderness periods, where God is making His hand heavy upon you (making your life difficult by frustrating your plans) because of failure of waiting and inquiring of Him. Faith is not leaning on your own understanding. Rather, leaning on your own understanding is rebellion witch is compared to the sin of witchcraft. Instead, faith is receiving a direction (whether through a strong desire, vision, direction through leaders/parents/authority, etc). People perish because of a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) and a lack of vision (Pr 29:18). My recommendation: let God lead you as His word says several times. Doing otherwise gives the enemy the legal rights to attack you or take your head off. You dont have time to waste in this life starting over and over again. God will help you to start right the 1st time, so trust Him and His direction.
