Today, I had the honor to introduce friends and gave remarks at the Martin Luther King Breakfast, at the Chesapeake Marriott. What I shared is a hope for a better tomorrow that began in earnest with a Moses generation of giants like Reverend King and many, many others whose names we will never know. . . and continues today as a Joshua generation takes up the fight that has not ended. So as much as this is a day to remember, it is also a day for us to encourage others to dream - as Dr. King would want - of a better world and better times that are yet to come. It is a day to remind all of us to honor simple acts. . . things as basic but world-changing as sitting down at a lunch counter, taking a child to a park, or drinking at a different water fountain. . . each of which took a kind of courage few of us will ever be called to summon. It is a day to encourage all of us to always keep in our hearts a faith that transformed a nation, and a belief that we can all get to the Promised Land. For my part - and in Chesapeake - these are visions and values I hope we will never lose. . . and I thank you for allowing me to be a part of this celebration. God bless
