Today I heard the best explanation ever for the disappearance of aircraft and ships in the so called “Bermuda Triangle”. It was from Neil deGrasse Tyson. Statistically speaking a certain percentage of all planes will crash, lets call that “X”. Also, statistically a certain percentage of all ships will sink, lets call that “Y”. Now take the number of planes and ships that pass through the “Bermuda Triangle”, a very heavily traveled area, and apply the factors of X and Y and you will find that the number of planes and ships that crash and sink in that area is completely in line with where they should be according to the statistics. So, there is not (as many people claim) a larger number of planes and ships disappearing there ... there is exactly the “right” amount according to the data. Another interesting thing he said was that everyone focuses on the fact that the planes and ships seem to disappear .... they sink to the bottom of the ocean, that’s not the same as disappearing. Cars, trucks and trains crash every day ... but we can see them after the crash so it does not seem all that mysterious to us, but when a plane or ship sinks to the bottom of the ocean people think that is somehow mysterious. Sometimes the simplest explanations make the most sense.
