Today, I held a Joint Economic Committee (JEC) hearing to discuss the findings of a JEC report showing the negative economic impact of economic brinkmanship in Congress. We all remember the last episode of brinkmanship in 2011 when the Dow dropped 2000 points & our credit rating was downgraded. Right now, a group of extremists is threatening to hold our economy hostage, using the debt ceiling and the threat of a government shutdown to re-litigate the health care bill. We need to stop this brinkmanship & focus on real solutions to reduce our debt. I believe Democrats & Republicans can come together to find common ground on a responsible debt reduction plan that will move our economy forward.
