Today I learned about the passing of Joe Sample the legendary - TopicsExpress

Today I learned about the passing of Joe Sample the legendary piano player of The Jazz Crusaders. When I was 18 years old my whole musical world was turned upside down by my great friend Denis Knight when he played, The Best of The Crusaders for me. This experience lead me to discover Larry Carlton 335 whom I didnt realize had been playing for Steely Dan, Tom Scott, Michael Franks, Joan Baez and many others in the mid to late 70s. I was the first of my TKE brothers to explore the world of Jazz and spent many hours listening to Rainbow Seeker, Those Southern Knights, Chain Reaction and more by Joe Sample and the Crusaders. About ten years ago my great friend Victor Yoder won front row seats at Humphries by The Bay in San Diego for a Joe Sample show. It was a night I will never forget. The loss of this pioneer of todays modern jazz, I hope doesnt go unnoticed. Here is shout out to all my brothers and sisters who Ive enjoyed his music with. First are Denis Knight and Jo Knight, then Robert Behr, Jim Cummings, Greg Brannigan, Steve Hays, Rick Wenthe,Tom Richards, Mark Dakich, Robert Richey, Scott Lowery, all my brothers from TKE - Beta Omega Chapter, and in memory of Boylan Preston, Mike Reed, Mark Nixon. Peace be with all of you and Joe Sample god bless you for the joy you brought to me and so many others: youtube/watch?v=n0ygAhakw5w
