Today I learned some information about this Common Core issue verse the teaching of Islam in local public schools. 1.Common Core and the teaching of Islam is not related. Its been introduced as Common Core in Science. Common Core subject matters are only math and English. 2. Teaching of Islam has been taught in public schools for many years. It actually was taught in 6th grade and has been moved to 7th grade. 3. Islam is taught on the average of 7 weeks and students are tested on subject. 4. This curriculum came from the State of Tennessee dept of education, not on the federal level. Example children in California isnt taught Islam as in the state of Tennessee. I understand the law of separation of church and state, to insure equality and protection of all religions. But it upsets me that we have a state dept of education requiring the teaching of Islam in public schools. In talking to my source on the matter this person is very knowledgable and I feel that my comments are 100% correct. It alarms me that our public education system that is funded with my tax money has taken this direction. If you want to change society and beliefs of American people for many years it has been Hollywood and now our educational system thru our children. I have never had opinion for or against school vouchers. But I feel it may have came a time that school vouchers become a reality in Tennessee. We parents must become involved in what our children are taught as well as what we watch on tv. If voucher program is implemented then the parents can make the choice of private schools over public schools. What are your thoughts on this matter. Vouchers YES or NO
