Today I learned that Martinus String Trio No. 1, Movement I (which was written/debuted in Paris in late 1923/early 1924) directly adopted textural elements from Prokofievs Violin Concerto No. 1, Movement I (which debuted in Paris in October 1923.) Awesomely enough, Martinu had just moved to Paris and was still getting used to the sights and sounds of the early twentieth-century French composers. He probably went to the debut of Prokofievs first violin concerto and was like Dang, I really liked that plucky thing. I think I will do that plucky thing. I like history. History is nice.
