Today I learnt an interesting thing while procastinating (because Mondays Midterm Exam is still there... waiting for me like a dragon XD: As i have been talking with some nice people about men (sounds strange coming from me, doesnt it?) and kinds of masculinities in TVD series, i just happened to google its spin off TO, looking for some of its music (apart from pop music there are some blues&jazz songs that I kind of enjoy) and... i found the interesting fact that one of those songs is in fact a version of a folk song composed in the 40s as a response to the popular God Bless America. *for the record, required quote: web.archive.org/web/20080625072313/loyno.edu/history/journal/1996-7/Spivey.html* I know it is probably old news for some of you, more anglo-philos than me, but never mind, I really liked both, the song (although the original one was a bit too folk even for me) and the studies about it i read afterwards. and... although this is Iceland and no USA (geographical stuff mentioned in the song dont fit this land :P ), I actually have the feeling that this land IS my land.
