Today I lost a friend...someone Id known for over a year. Janie was a Facebook friend; someone I never met. Now, If you didnt know her...you missed out on something special. Janie Bigelow had cancer...and I know, lots of people do...but when I got the word of her death this morning...it floored me. Not just because it was so unexpected. Not only because she was such a dynamite Patriot and a wonderful, fun-loving soul, although thats all true. No, what I found so disturbing is that I didnt even know she had cancer. I didnt even know she so close to death. And it made me realize, that even though we all talk on a daily basis, share little tidbits of our lives...family pics...our political passions, etc...we really dont know each other at all. We live so far apart. We have our own personal lives, and demons...ailments...and sometimes no one has a clue who the real man or woman is behind the screen. This is sometimes due to the nature of the beast. I mean, texting is so impersonal and can be taken out of context *shrug* very easily. Sometimes, its deliberate, either to safeguard ourselves and others we care about. There are many reasons we never really get to know each other. But there is a remedy. We still have phones...and vehicles. We can make time to get together occasionally. We need to do this...not because death could take us...any of us... at any given moment but to create bonds; bonds that could...if given the opportunity, blossom into something good and lasting; something that could stand the test of time, even if that time is shortened. So...lets plan some face to face gatherings. Lets really try to get to know those like-minded people we can...while we can.
