Today I lost another friend to leukemia. Carolyn Hayes Uber fought furiously for five years with AML and it looked like she was going to win several times. She had chemotherapy, radiation, a bone marrow transplant, more chemotherapy and countless other procedures to deal with the complications these treatments caused. She did this with a spirit full of hope, strength, and courage. She was an inspiration to me and so many others. Even though she was treated at one of the best cancer centers in the world, City of Hope, and even though her will and spirit were ready, her body just didnt have the strength to carry her through her latest round of treatment. I am desperate to find a way to stop tragedies like Carolyns. I am resolved to never stop fighting for the end of cancer. Carolyn was scheduled to begin a clinical trial soon for the drug that Dr. June (Fire with Fire) developed - another part of the tragedy. I am weary, oh so weary, of losing people to this monster cancer. Amanda and Tina, I cant find words to express the depth of my sorrow.
