Today I lost my voice. A virus in the throat the doctor said. - TopicsExpress

Today I lost my voice. A virus in the throat the doctor said. Reduced now to a barely audible stream of cracks and croaks, I contemplate how much I often rely on words to communicate with the world. A weak murmur in place of the strong voice my head is used to resonating with, I am instantly silenced now when someone chooses to speak above a whisper. Its rather humbling. Having grown up the son of an English teacher, I have always used words to shift a situation in my favor, interject during a heated discussion, persuade, dissuade, help, hinder or get out of an awkward or risky moment. There is power in choosing the right words. However, forced to listen more, to observe and to witness, this is a moment I will enjoy for the well needed lesson that it is. Even if you are silver tongued, silence is still golden.
