Today I met an incredible family! With my job as I do repairs in peoples houses I ask so how long have you been in Brevard? I usually get a couple of years or something like that. Today Harriet Levy thinks for a moment then says D.D. has been here since 1952! I about fell over! She calls him in to the room and she introduced me to D.D. We start chatting about old places in the Melbourne area. D.D. tells me about arriving in 1952 to work at Radiation at the Melbourne airport. I asked what restaurants he liked that are no longer around. He talked about a restaurant that was on Eau Gallie Blvd. I had no idea where this was located. Turns out it was down a road and this place is now occupied by the big Yacht basin (Anchorage Yacht Basin). Wow! That went back some years! He remembers everyplace that was around back in the day, and is now gone. On the wall was a big picture. It rang a bell in my head and I just could not figure it out. It was driving me crazy. I could not take it anymore so I asked where was that? He says that is me and my son at the Tradewinds Hotel around 1959 or so! Wow! What a great picture. D.D. was kind enough to give me a copy of the photo for the group to enjoy! I really enjoyed the conversation and wish I had more time and a hand held tape recorder!
