Today I mourn the loss of a man that God chose to speak into my life when I was on the wrong path. In the hallway in Divine Land with a laced blunt in my mouth and a brick of crack in my hand, Joseph (P. G. Gaines), came up to me and said, Rock, I love you man, but you dont belong or fit out here! You need to be in one of these... He proceeded to make a steeple with his hands like a church. Although at that time, we were both a part of a dysfunctional lifestyle, he spoke life in me with a type of fatherly authority that penetrated my heart, mind and soul. With those words burning in me, I turned myself in in November of 1989 and surrendered my life to God on Christmas morning on the West Wing of the Workhouse. While paying his dues later in life, I was able to talk to P. G. and thank him for those words. Not sure if he remembered that moment but he was glad he helped me. God has been using him to bless men and women alike for many years. Darren Freedom Green has reminded us that death is an appointment that we all must keep; For it is appointed unto man once to die, and after this the judgement. And while the masses will be paying homage to our fallen hero, his works will speak for him. When a Patriarch of our time is taken, his light continues to shine through the stories and testimonies that are shared by those who was effected by that light. Today with my heart heavy and tears flowing, I salute and celebrate the life and legacy of Joseph Gaines for the light he gave us, the strength he taught us, the unity hes now giving us and the hope hes leaving us. God bless you Yolanda and your family. I AM TRENTON! Dr. R. A. Goss.
