Today I opened up the book of Jermaine Gladden. I started to exam it. As I read it, I saw some dark moments and some bright days. At times I wondered how he made it through. Often times it showed that things he had went through transpired through his lack of responsibility, confidence, and just plain disobedience. While reading some of the chapters, it showed many loved ones passing through his life. It showed how he grown from then to now. It showed how he had to fight against temptations and how he gave into some. As I read it always mentioned at the end of each chapter, But God. In the mist of losing the only father that he knew at the time, had died of one craziest way to die at the age of 9 yrs old; the statement was still, But God. Losing his grandmother, close cousin and watching close family and friends fall victims of the streets, yet again the chapter ends with the statement, But God. Often told that he would never mount to anything, it started to settle in his spirit that that just might be true. He dropped out of high school in his last year. He went on to different programs that they offered but nothing he ever would complete. His mom one day sat him down and gave him a talk about life and how he started everything but never would complete, as she said it, sealing the deal. One of his greatest accomplishments was completing his GED in Job Corps. Top of his class he also completed a trade all in three months. It was record breaking during that time. He went on to joint the Army and started a family. Now after 13 years of being in the Army on with his second wife and host of children, he sits back and says, But God. It was only But God that brought him to this point. Its through His grace and mercy that kept him. It was times that he wanted to give up and throw in the towel but God wouldnt let him. He mentioned times still get hard at times, he may get discouraged, But God. God will supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory. Dont give up and dont give in.
