Today I pleasantly surprised myself by waking up happy, healthy and wealthy. My mood has elevated after about a week of lows which was a dampener to work. As I know it is easy to go up and not so easy to come down so now I have to control my highs.....my doc said I am doing well and he gave me the option to see him every two months instead of monthly....milestones like this is precious to the patient who hopes for recovery. My definition of recovery means less episodes of mania or depression, working and having an income which is blessed so I can utilise it for the good of my loved ones. Today I signed up to be a volunteer at Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and we - 8 from Club HEAL visited the long stay ward where the oldest patient has been there for 40 years. I can imagine how it feels like but as at my lowest point in 2011- 2012, I was in IMH acute ward and High Dependency Ward for 10 months, in and out of hospital. At High Dependency Ward, I insulted a doctor and he threatened to put me in long term ward and I reacted by saying that if he really does that I would curse him and his family through all the generations. Today we - as from Club HEAL visited another 2 patients and made them happy and also we touched the lives of the men in the male long term stay ward. Many of them are not visited by families and friends and they welcome the volunteers who come to talk and do activities with them. We are already planning something fun and meaningful with our new friends of long stay ward.
