Today I read a poem in the local newspaper that brought me to tears b/c it is something that is near and dear to me. I am going to put it on f/b and I make no apologies if I offend anyone. I have a handicapped son whom I would give my life for in a heartbeat! He means tthe world to me. I hope that by printing this poem that i may change some folks opinions about how they treat or look at a handicapped person. I believe that my son has made me a better person! This poem appeared in Ann Landers column in 1978 but was written in 1956 by Edna Massimilla. Here goes: A meeting was held, quite far from earth Its time again for another birth Said the Angels to the Lord above, This special child will need much love. Her progress may seem very slow, Accomplishments she may not show And shell require extra care From all the folks she meets down there. She may not run or laugh or play Her thoughts may seem quite far away In many ways she wont adapt, And shell be known as handicapped. So lets be careful where shes sent We want her life to be content Please, Lord, find the right parents who Will do this special job for You. They will not realize right away The leading role theyre asked to play But with this child sent from above Comes stronger faith and richer love. And soon theyll know the privilege given In caring for this gift from Heaven. Their precious charge, so meek and mild Is heavens very special child.
