Today I received Tax Day messages from liberal and conservative groups. They were on-point, talking about tax inequality and the other talking about the abuse of the IRS. Is there tax inequality? Yes. Is there abuse within the IRS? Probably. What are we fighting about really? Who is the bigger victim to wealth or the IRS? *sigh* Isnt this the WRONG FIGHT? Lets all pay our share and fight corruption together. Both groups who emailed me are raising money, inciting extra emotion based on how we feel today, Tax Day. There is a real need to pursue and expose corruption...in govt and in business. It is the corruption of the system that is costly and sets off these dualistic battles, resulting in a deflection of the real culprit of spiraling costs. Do we have real differences of priority about what the government should do? Yes. But no one thinks corruption is a good idea. What appeals to me is the idea that patriots pay their taxes and support the health of our system. When corruption is added and the power struggle becomes so obvious that 90% of us think the system is rigged...well, we have to find messages that combine our strength, highlight our common goals and interests while overcoming our tendency to split into the well-known and comfortable dualism of us v. them. Lets stop being victims and start being citizens. ~Debilyn
