Today I received my first Funeral Notification email scam. I - TopicsExpress

Today I received my first Funeral Notification email scam. I havent received one before, or had one slip by my virus protector, but was aware they existed. They started earlier this year. If you get a notice with wording similar to the text below, dont click on the link, or the only funeral might be for your computer. Notice it doesnt give specifics on who the person is that passed. It may use a family name that sound familiar, but no dates of the event, location, or contact info. Also, when you hover over the link you should be able to see the URL it would send you to. Its usually a long URL that has nothing to do with the content of the email. A new low for spammers and hackers. Heres the example of the one I received from the Amos Family Funeral Announcement Hereby we want to share your sorrow for your dear friend who passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014. You are cordially invited to express your sympathy in memory of your friend at a celebration of life service that will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Ocker Funeral Home. Please find more detailed information about the memorial service here. Sincerely, Funeral Home Secretary, David Griffith
