Today I reflected upon my nickname when I was nine. Given to me by by mother from what is still my favourite childhood film of all times - Mary Poppins; it referred to a song I was in love with due to the words and meaning: tuppence. I can sing the song word perfect still today with forty-eight and so very often think upon it just out of the blue. Yesterday I was at Lorna Byrne´s talk on Letters from Heaven in Bern and had this song playing through my head again out of no where; in the middle of the seminar. I realised today as I watched a film called Saving Mr Banks, the story of the author of Mary Poppins, why. The people I drove up to the seminar with asked me why did I come to Germany? Leaving all my family and friends behind? What has been my motivation here and do I regret leaving an English speaking country to live in their rather restrictive land. Since participating in a study trip to an Asian country in Summer where poverty is eminent, I ask myself often lately the exact same thing. Why do I live in Germany, speaking a foreign language and plodding along in what seems doing useless things when perhaps I should be helping else where; separated from my family in Australia, burdened with what seems heavy issues here yet in truth they are actually not. I feel I have still not began to do what my life purpose is. Today in my small study watching the above film I had tears streaming down my face as I watched the scene in relation to the reason for this part in her, Mrs Travers original book. An Australian who emigrated to England where she began her writing career. Though her words are simple and few ... it takes not much for us to make a difference. It can be only feed the birds, thats what she cries which is needed and all around the cathedral the saints and apostles look down as she sells her wears. Although you cant see it you know they are smiling each time someones shows that he cares .... So it was yesterday with Lorna Byrne´s very simple words and rather few. They will reach a lot of people and cause a positive influence I believe. Perhaps that is my purpose too. Through my simple whispers I also can reach out to those reading, listening, reading and I too can make my small contribution to making a slight difference to the humanity and the all the souls and creatures which occupy it too. I would like to think it is my way of feeding the birds for tuppence and creating a bucket of gold from the action I undertake for all to share in.
