Today I remember my brother Harvey Lee Carter who lost his life at the age of 26 through Domestic Violence. As I mourn his death, I realize it is because of him I am alive. I vowed to never let my mother lose another child through violence. Now today, I celebrate not being a victim but victorious through the decisions I made. I was not ashamed to get out of an abusive marriage. Domestic violence is our enemy, we must actively take a role in stamping out this vicious disease which crosses all boundaries. We must take authority over this evil spirit that takes away our fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers. Be mindful of the relationships that you are in. This cycle repeats itself. We must educate our community and save our families from this evil. If someone yells at you, hits you, demeans you...that is not love.
