Today, I started a thread on this forum regarding the PSOJs - TopicsExpress

Today, I started a thread on this forum regarding the PSOJs suggestion that perhaps its time the GOJ look abroad to find a possible replacement for Owen Ellington to head the JCF. Most of the comments from those forum members who commented are basically against the idea of someone from outside of Jamaica coming in to run the JCF. There is a feeling that there are competent folks in the Force who can step in and pick up where Ellington left off. Heres my take, as things stand in Jamaica today, there isnt much that Jamaicans are running. Yes, we might have a Jamaican GG, PM and govt, whose ministers are all Jamaican citizens but its the IMF that is basically dictating how the economy operates, the US, UK and Canada will have a major say in who the next Police Commissioner will be and a French construction company will have a say in the toll fares for a major thoroughfare into Kingston. A few years from now, a state-backed Chinese construction company will be building and completing the Bog Walk Bypass Road, another toll road, and theyll determine what the toll fare will be. UC Rusal, a Russian mining company is the biggest bauxite producer and mining operator here and when they want concessions from the GOJ, well, chances are theyll get them. I want to imagine that if COMPLANT wants concessions from the GOJ regarding sugar cane issues it will probably get them. We might get pissed at them (UC Rusal and COMPLANT) but hey, were in charge. Overall, I want someone to remind me how well weve done managing our resouces/assets and economy why we have so many foreigners running them and telling us how to run our own affairs.
