Today I subbed in a class with a bunch of fourth graders who I taught for a few days last year in third grade. One of them is a little boy who was born with only one leg and has a prosthetic leg. He is such a sweetheart. When I took the kids to lunch (all 36 of them), I turned to go back cause I thought they had all passed me, but there he was about 15 steps behind. I said, I thought you were with the rest, and he says, Well, Im just one of those guys with a prosthetic leg! Ha ha. I said, I remember you. So after school, he comes up to the desk and says, Did you really remember me? I said, Who could forget you? I asked him some questions about how he learned to walk and when he got his first prosthetic and whether it was hard to adjust to having only one leg. He says, You know, my mom says I am special because of how I was born. Iam the ONLY kid in this entire school with a prosthetic leg. God made me this way. Not only does he accept himself completely, hes worked out a way to feel very content with his situation. There is one very big being in that little body.
