Today I take time to honor the veterans in my family. My maternal grandfather William Logan Rice, PFC B Company, 29th Infantry Div 1922 - 1925. My maternal great-great grandfathers Francis Marion Rice, Pvt, B Co. 1st TN Inf BN (Colms), CSA. Samuel Y Grisham, Pvt, D Co. Lt. Col. Mordecai D. Morelands AL Cavalry BN, CSA. Pvt Charles Smith Sr. of DeKalb Co TN, 1st TN Mtd Inf. US Army. War of 1812 - Thomas Grisham, Pvt, served in the KY Detached Mtd Infantry and was at New Orleans with Andrew Jackson in 1815, and John Steele of DeKalb Co TN, Hallums Co. 39th U.S. Inf. Battle of Horseshoe Bend, AL. 4th great-grandfather John Judd and his brother Rowland Judd, Jr. BOTH served under Col. Benj. Cleveland at the Battle of Kings Mtn SC in October 1780, where the British forces under Maj. Ferguson were crushed by the Over Mountain Men. Other Revolutionary War ancestors were John Fisher, Sr. of DeKalb Co TN and Rowland Judd Sr. Capt. Wilkes Co NC Militia.
