Today I visited the Deep in Hull with my non-disabled toddler. The Deep is a large aquarium which we visit quite frequently as once you have been and bought tickets your pass lasts for a full year. Under 3s get in free. Older children do have to pay but essential carers get in free, although proof may be required if your childs disability is not immediately obvious. Parking is free with a blue badge and there are plenty of disabled spaces. There is also a disabled entrance which usually has a small or non-existent queue (useful to know on busy school holiday days!). The whole site is accessible by wheelchair with lifts where there are stairs. The first part of the exhibition is interactive with some loud voiceovers, so if your child has problems with this I would recommend that you take ear protectors. The rest of the exhibition consists of aquariums, which both my children love, although I have to admit for a couple of years my daughter was mostly interested in the lights at the top of the fish tanks! I think it is a lovely sensory experience. There is a canteen, where a sign states that any dietary requirements can be catered for and food can be blended to any consistency required. For those children who really cannot cope with loud noises or crowds they do have scheduled Quiet Days, this is where lights are turned up, sounds are turned low and school visits are banned, they do not have any in the near future though but I will try to keep you up to date if any are planned. For more details please click the link. Ps penguin enclosure is currently being refurbished so penguins cant be seen until February xx https://thedeep.co.uk/
