Today I visited the Freedom Centre in Sheerness to attend their Annual General Meeting. It is always a humbling experience to see the dedication of the staff, trustees and members and the genuine appreciation of the disabled people who use the centre. A number of the members and users made speeches and it was noticeable how many of them referred to being part of an extended family. I know exactly what they mean. The atmosphere in the centre is always so friendly, welcoming and supportive. Indeed, I too am made to feel part of that same extended family. I always come away from the Freedom Centre feeling a better person than when I arrived. I suppose that is the beauty of the place. And there are other similar groups like this across my constituency. In a world of increasing cynicism, selfishness and cruelty, I am proud that there are still so many good, unselfish, caring people who put the interests of others before their own. Congratulations to you all, and thank you for what you are doing for those who need help and support in our community.
