Today I was at Sonic drive-thru when I looked up to see a man about my Dads age that fell in the Jimmy Johns parking lot. He fell hard and was really struggling to get up because he hurt his knee. There were at least 3 cars that drove by him and didnt stop to help him. I drove over there right away. What really pissed me off was there were two employees outside and just watched him and then watched me helping him. I asked one of the employees for a manager who never came out. I helped the man inside the store and asked to speak to a manager. The lady said I am the manager. I told her that this man had fallen in the parking lot and hurt himself. She looked at me and said So, what do you want me to do about it?!? I was furious! I took a deep breath and said she needed to have some sympathy to start and if he is hurt they are liable. She then tells me I am not liable for anything! It was all I had not to jump across the counter. The man was ok and I helped him in my car and gave him a ride across the street to Home Depot (where he worked) He asked for my name and number so he could call on me if he needed a witness. Turns out he knows my parents and I know his daughter. He thanked me and I headed back to school. I am still mad! I was taught to help someone when they were hurt. Especially when lying on the ground in 12 degree weather struggling to get up. Makes me want to cry to think if that was my dad. I would hope more people would offer to help. Im furious with Jimmy Johns and will be filing a complaint with the corporate office. I called the man tonight and asked how he was feeling. He is stiff and sore, but is doing ok. Im glad it wasnt worse. Im just furious at man kind right now. What the heck?!?!?
