Today I was honored to get to tour the Looff Carousel at Riverfront Park with Kevin H Smith. Thanks to my friend Luissa Largent for twisting her moms arm (Bette Largent) to let us soak up some real Spokane History knowledge. Bette was sharing some amazing things with us and my brain was full about 3 minutes into it, lol. So I am posting some reference sites if you are interested in learning more about this iconic piece of our citys history. Some random things that my brain remembered from todays meeting: - Did you know that half of the horses represent romance and the other half represent money? - The ring dispenser is the ORIGINAL ring dispenser from the early 1900s when it was first used! - Did you know that there is another Riverfront Park with a carousel in Cincinnati, Oh.? - Bette had to paint the tiger as friendly as she could so as not to scare the children who ride him (see photo, he is a beauty) - Since it opened in 1909, our carrousel has been operated for more than 1,000,000 rides and nearly 15,000,000 revolutions! - Our carousel requires 50,000 rings each year! Check out their FB page at https://facebook/pages/Riverfront-Park-Carousel/112259025456135 And this web site has some info as well: https://beta.spokanecity.org/riverfrontpark/attractions/looffcarrousel/ And also check out spokanecarrousel.org/
