Today I watched the video collection Umbrellas in the Sun, which compiles a selection of the video output of Belgian independent record label Les Disques Du Crépuscule. The label was founded in 1980 by journalists and promoters, Michel Duval and Annik Honoré. Honoré dated Joy Division frontman, Ian Curtis, for some time before his suicide in 1980, but her connection with the bands surviving members and Tony Wilson of Factory Records helped create the Factory Benelux/Les Disques du Crépuscule label. This partnership would distribute UK artists in Europe and produce a native scene of cosmopolitan post-punk art popsters in Belgium, such as Berntholer, which were promoted in turn in the UK. This was a time of eclectic assortment of sound and vision for certain.
