Today I went to Subway ordered a big fat sandwich and sat down to eat it when I saw a older frail woman walked in - her face was pretty beat up, her arm was in a splint, and she was limping, I almost started crying for some reason... she went to the restroom as the rest of the store watch silently. On her way out, I stopped her and asked if she was alright, and if she needed any help - she smiled and said, oh no, I had a seizure and banged myself up pretty bad, we talked there for a few minutes, she made me laugh because she said - thank god I didnt knock out any of my teeth! I smiled and I asked if I could buy her lunch but she said, oh no. I just stopped in to use the restroom and cool down, so I asked again and said, please, I would really love to buy you lunch, she smiled, and said well a little sandwich would be fine... so I walked her up to the counter told her to order whatever she wanted - Ive got the bill, of course quietly, she smiled and said, thank you so much - I wanted to hug her but I was afraid with all her bruising, but the smile was worth all the hugs in the world. As she left the restaurant, one big burly guy came up to me, with tears in his eyes and said that what I did was a wonderful thing - I had a hard time responding to him because I was so moved by his emotional gesture. I sat there wondering - was what I did that nice? what makes it so wonderful? I thought for a moment, wouldnt we all have done the same - then I remember the room full of people that said nothing as she entered or exited. Once I got into the car I said a prayer for her asking that God watch over her, help fulfill her needs, and may many more people extend her a helping hand. Hope everyone is having a great Monday!
