Today I would like to salute our Rhodesian Army Medics, men of men - TopicsExpress

Today I would like to salute our Rhodesian Army Medics, men of men as their fathers before them. In 1974 I was deployed with a company next to st. Alberts Mission Hospital. The hospital was staffed with Catholic Nuns who were nurses. The OC allowed me to assist at the hospital. I had 2 cases of note, one was an old mbuya who had a serious case of dysentery and was dying from dehydration. Her whole family had gathered to see her through. I had to do a venous cut down to insert a drip. Four drips later, I came back the next day to see her sitting up in bed. The other was of an old Mdala who had come off his bicycle. He was so badly bruised that his old bod was failing. Treated him successfully as well. When we finished our bush stint, the road through the whole business center was lined with well wishers. We had won a battle without firing a shot. I can relate many cases of kindness and human decency that went on in those days. Rhodesian Army Medic
