Today Im going to finish the story of the Forestville Dam and the - TopicsExpress

Today Im going to finish the story of the Forestville Dam and the water pipe that goes to the tower tank and from there to the powerhouse. The power house was built in the 1920s so I guess the dam and penstock water pipe was constructed at the same time. So the water is carried southwards to the falls area and then it goes east to the power house. Not sure of the distance of the water penstock, maybe a mile or so. From the dam to the tower, the penstock is made of wood and from the tower down to the powerhouse, theres two water penstock pipes made of metal to power the two turbines in there. The purpose of the tower is to handle any water surges or if water level is low, theres a storage of water in it. So helps for a steady flow of water. The tower is 60 ft high and forgot how wide. So will show the pipe to the tower and then a photo of the powerhouse with a view of the top of the tower behind it and then the parking area by Wright street on the road to it. The last 3 photos are from one spring when I went by the dam from the Forestville Basin road and walked a trail to it to get the view of the leftover water flowing over the rock cliff to the river and then water is flowing over the dam from the spring melt and rains. It was something to see as it was very forceful causing a water spray for quite a distance. I had to climb down a steep slope to get the photos from the bottom. In the summer, theres no water that flows over, so Im hoping to capture that this spring with the video as its like Niagara Falls. But you do see the leftover water that flows from that narrow pipe you saw in yesterdays photo, to the edge of the dam and over the rock cliff, creating the neat falls. Will have more pictures this summer of all of this.
