Today Ingham County Sheriffs Deputy Grant Whitaker will be laid to rest. He died in the line of duty on December 7, 20124. Deputy Whitaker went to the same police Academy as I did, Mid-Michigan Police Academy. I was a part of the 84th Academy and he was a part of the 86th Academy. Several friends of mine has the pleasure to serve with Deputy Whitaker and said he was a model officer. Police Officers nationwide share a unique bond...a brotherhood, where we are willing to lay down our lives for the citizens we have been sworn to protect and fellow officers running toward the chaos with us. While we mourn the loss of a fellow officers life...we know that we must carry on and honor Deputy Whitakers life and legacy through the protection and service of the individuals in our respective communities.
