Today Iraqi officials have started fighting back again and launched air assault attacks against the rebels/ISIL/ISIS in Saddam Husseins hometown of Tikrit. Commando helicopters were shot at as they flew low over the city and landed in a stadium at the city’s university where Army snipers were positioning themselves. One of the helicopters crashed after taking fire from the insurgents, one dropped off troops then left and another stayed on the ground. ISIS has said that Americans side with Shiite Assad who is fighting against them, and Shiite Malikis friend Iran, which armed and trained some of Iraq’s Shi’ite militias, has pledged to intervene if necessary in Iraq to protect Shi’ite holy places. Thousands of Shi’ites have answered Maliki’s call to join the armed forces to defend the country. ISIS has Launched a New Artillery Offensive Against Christian Villages causing many Christians to flee their homes and seek shelter with the Kurdish.
