Today, Is October 10th, and Drew Shearins birthday. Drew grew up down the road from me and loved music. Even though Drew was a lot young, we both shared a love for music in high school. Drew tragically died in a vehicle crash on SR 8 three years ago. Several month ago a received a trumpet, and was told to do whatever I wanted with it. I contacted the high school about donating the trumpet. I found that Drews mother, Deb Johnson, created a foundation called Drews Gift of Music (drewshearinmusic). I met with Mrs. Johnson over a week ago and I was very impressed with the program. DID YOU KNOW THE STUDENTS HAVE TO PAY $200.00 A YEAR TO BE IN BAND. 1. I know there are kids out there that NEED to be in band and their parents dont have the money. 2. There are kids out there with NO musical instruments to play in band. 3. There are former band geeks like myself that have musical instrument sitting in their closets for YEARS!!!!!!!! I am asking my fellow band members of all ages to DONATE their instruments!!!!!!! WE HAVE STUDENTS WAITING FOR ALTO SAXOPHONES!!!!!!!! or ADOPT A STUDENT FOR A SEMSTER!!! Music lessons for students are $150 per semester. If they are selected to receive the lessons they are required to give lessons to the other students. I know money is tight for everyone. Any and all donations are excepted and TAX deductible. Are focus is and will be all of Starke County Schools and Plymouth. Let us celebrate Drews birthday by giving back to the music that gave us SOOOOOOO much!!!!!!
