Today Itasca County Veteran Service Officer, Sergeant First Class - TopicsExpress

Today Itasca County Veteran Service Officer, Sergeant First Class (Hugh) Quinn, was awarded the highest non-combat medal of honor, the Meritorious Service Medal. The Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) is a military award presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the United States. Major Jeffrey Houglum travelled to Itasca County today to personally present the award to Hugh Quinn. Major Houglum and Hugh Quinn served together in Iraq. Quinns military service continues a line of uninterrupted service that began when the Quinn family first immigrated to this country from Ireland and fought in the Civil War. Like generations before him, Hugh graduated on a Friday and enlisted in active duty the following Monday. This medal is in essence a lifetime achievement award to Sergeant First Class Quinn for his 29 years of service to our country. Congratulations Hugh! You make us proud!
