He endured tortures that went beyond all human expectations during the persecutions of Christians by Diocletian and Maximian, until he was finally given birth to eternal life on January 22, 304. His famous words to Dacian, governor of Spain was recorded in the Acts of the Martyrs: The more I witness your fury, Dacian, the greater is my pleasure. Do not lessen in any way the sufferings you prepare for me so that I can make my victory shine more resplendently.
