Today, June 6, 2014, is the 70th anniversary of D-Day. The D-Day invasion, codenamed Operation Overlord, began on June 6, 1944. The Normandy landing is the largest seaborne invasion in history and marked the beginning of the end of the Nazi era across Europe. More than 150,000 Allied troops from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, free France and Norway were involved in the operation to oust the Nazi force from Europe. The future of the world pivoted on this battle for a slice of beach only 6 miles long and 2 miles wide. “This operation is not being planned with any alternatives.
