Today Lent begins. Last night I was sure I was ready for my Lenten fasting. This morning, the devil put his first road block at my feet – coffee. If you are following the Daniel Fast with me, you know that drinking is restricted to water only. (Book of Daniel 1:12) Already I am struggling and want my morning coffee pick me up. As long as we act to draw near to God, the devil will do anything and everything to try and sabotage us. What a horribly dark and consuming beast he truly is; but I know that he will fail in his sabotage of me. He cannot and will not consume my commitment to and relationship with God. This is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. Christ was tempted in the wilderness for forty days and forty nights by the devil. We know as Christians our faith can and will be tested. Therefore, today I say “Bring on the testing of my spirit. For I know the Lord God is on my side.” I will stand firm in my fasting commitment to my Heavenly Father; and I will praise HIM amidst my frustrations and struggles, for it is in these moments when I seek HIM out and rely on HIS strength to uphold me.
