Today Marks a year of my Civil Disobedience at the Georgia Board - TopicsExpress

Today Marks a year of my Civil Disobedience at the Georgia Board of Regents Meeting. I still remember looking into the eyes of Chancellor Hank Huckaby as I asked him Do you think it is morally right to ban me from my dream University on the basis of my Immigration Status?. I Remember sitting on a prison cell with 17 other detainees (All African American detained for minor infractions) and asking myself if I had done the right thing. I remember hugging brother Yobany Diaz as we both tried to sleep, he was wearing his cap and gown from his graduation ceremony and I was wearing my bow tie, suspenders and maroon blazer. I remember blocking my family in Mexico from seeing my Facebook so that they would not know I had been arrested. How could I explain to my mother that despite my academic achievements and sitting on stage next to my principal at the commencements ceremony the day of my graduation, I could not go to college. I remember the love, and outpouring of support from my Georgia Family. The next day, as I fell asleep, I remember telling myself It was worth once and a million times, education should not be denied to those actively seeking it. We shall prevail. We shall prevail. #GALIftBan
