Today, Marvel restored part of Sam Wilson from a totally unnecessary, not to mention bigoted, retcon and an example of bad writing to start with). In 1975, Marvel retconned Falcons past; instead of the dedicated former social worker we were introduced to in 1969, the Falcon was changed into a mob-connected thug (courtesy of the Red Skull & the Cosmic Cube). Maybe they thought he was street enough, maybe thats just how they saw a man of color. Problem was, if you ever read the original stories, the thug/pimp Snap Wilson just didnt fit; wed already seen his nephew, his sister, and knew he was a social worker/public defender. No room in that life for him to also be a street thug. Regardless, for years that was the Falcon Marvel showed. But in the latest issue of CAPTAIN AMERICA, this is wiped away. Narration by Cap: Those FESTERING old lies...not because it was EVER true, but because they EXPECTED me to believe it. That it was so damned obvious to them thats (thug Snap) what I SHOULD have been. That they chose THAT story...and for ALL the reasons they chose it. But thats not me. It NEVER was.
