Today Matthew has had difficult behavior. I always try to find the root cause of what is triggering Matthew’s behavior. Matthew has been crying and whining, much for the past day. I asked him if he wanted to speak with me about what was wrong; I sat and listened patiently and Matthew explained he is hearing a buzzing noise in his ears, continuously. The noise bothers Matthew a lot. This afternoon we made an appointment with Matthew’s pediatrician. The pediatrician saw that Matthew had an infection in both of his ears and gave him an antibiotic. While waiting for the doctor Matthew was very good and waited patiently. Matthew sat in the chair and watched a cartoon on the TV. He met a young boy and the two of them had a very involved conversation about a multitude of topics. Matthew and the young boy hit it off and had a good time together. Matthew asked the young boy the following riddle (the riddle is from Disney’s “Sophia the First”). The riddle goes: What is worth more than a diamond but doesn’t cost anything? Also what is very hard to find but very easy to lose? The young boy, who liked riddles and could recite many, could not answer this riddle. Matthew provided the answer: A FRIEND. Matthew then asked the young boy if he wanted to be Matthew’s friend. The young boy replied yes, but I have to talk to my mom. Then Matthew went and asked the young boy’s mother, if he could be friends with her son. The lady said, “Yes, he can be your friend but we will have to wait for a while.” Matthew asked the young boy for his telephone but the young boy’s mother just smiled. Matthew then gave the young boy’s mother my telephone so she and her son could call Matthew. The young boy’s mother said maybe we can get together for hamburgers together sometime, and then Matthew was called to go see the doctor. Matthew wants to have friends so very much. Now, Matthew is wishing and has his fingers crossed the young boy gives him a call.
