Today, November 11th, is Veterans Day - a special day set aside to pay tribute to the brave men and women of the armed forces who put their lives at risk to ensure that the rest of us can enjoy the freedom we often take for granted. These include members of the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and the Coast Guard. The origin of the holiday can be traced all the way back to 1938, when it was observed as Armistice Day to honor the soldiers who served in World War I. November 11th was picked because the war ended exactly at 11 am on 11.11.1918. Following World War II and the Korean War, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to include the soldiers that had fought in these two battles. I do not only pay tribute to the military men of the US Army, but also of those who serve in other nations. Every single man and woman ensures my freedom for which has been fought so hard for in previous wars, even today they fight so that I may live in freedom.
