Today November 7, 2013 is Reverend Billy Graham’s 95th birthday and I salute him for being a good and faithful servant of his Lord Jesus Christ. It was at a Billy Graham Crusade held at old Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C., that at the age of 16, I rededicated my life to serve the Lord. I also enjoyed listening to his broadcast on AM Radio in Washington, DC “The Hour of Decision” on Sunday’s. Here are some interesting things I remember about Billy and His ministry broadcasts: •Billy always began his sermon prayer with “Our Father and Our God; •The first time I heard the classic hymn “How Great Thou Art” was on his radio broadcast sung by George Beverly Shea; •Billy often cited the statistic that the Bible 2600 times declares “Thus says the Lord;” •The Crusade Choir Opened the services I attended with the hymn “Blessed Assurance Jesus Is Mine;” •The Motto Banner of the Graham Crusades I attended was John 14:6: “Jesus said I am The Way, The Truth and The Life;” •Black Actress Ethel Waters who had her own TV show in the 50’s called “Beulah” singing “His Eye Is On The Sparrow.” •I have been on the mailing list of The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association since 1954 when I asked my sister Grace to help me mail $1.00 to support the program for a special Calendar featuring his London Crusade. (it cost 3 cents to mail the letter) Tonight numerous TV channels, a few of which I’ve listed below, will broadcast Billy Graham’s final message to America called ‘My Hope America.’ It will be a historic nationwide effort to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people across the United States. I have already seen the DVD of the program and it is powerful and inspiring message from the preacher to 11 U.S. presidents. A book by the same title will also be available from bookstores. Please pray today for and be sure to watch the special broadcast this evening on one of the following popular national TV stations that will air it: UPTV Nov 7 7:30 pm ET (Channel 289 on Comcast cable) TBN Nov 7, 8:00 pm ET: (Channel 290 on Comcast cable) FOX NEWS Nov 7 10:00 pm ET (Channel 32 on Comcast cable) DAYSTAR Nov 7 8:30 pm ET((Channel 289 on Comcast cable) INSP Nov 10 4:00 pm ET Here is one of the questions from An Interview with Billy Graham, Author of The Reason For My Hope: Salvation conducted by Emma Chastain of Barnes and Noble: What are some practical steps we can take to live our lives fully, and appreciate each day? “Someone once observed that there are three days a week that we have no control over—yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We only have this moment in time, and we are confronted constantly with decisions about something. The most important decision anyone can make right now is where they will spend eternity. There is nothing more practical than to find truth that will guide us through each step of the day. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth…I have come that [the people] may have life, and have it to the fullest” (John 10:10 NIV). Today technology guides us by GPS. It knows where we are and can direct us to where we are headed. It will give step-by-step instruction—even help us avoid construction zones and traffic tie-ups. We may not understand how this works but we gladly accept the help. We’ve become dependent on this little device—we believe it will do what it promises. But when God who watches our every move from His throne in Heaven longs to guide each step we take in life, we turn away because we do not believe in Him. There is a profound passage in the Bible that says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV). The most practical decision we can ever make in life is to place ourselves in the hand of God who stands ready to forgive us of our sin against Him. He offers the gift of salvation through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ who paid our penalty so that we might have a relationship with Him and live life to its fullest. We are walking through this world blind, not knowing what the next moment will bring; yet God says, “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know… I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight” (Isaiah 42:16 NIV). This is the reason for my hope.”
