Today, October 1st, marks the 70th anniversary of the rescue of the Danish Jews. On this day in 1943, the Nazi-German authorities ordered the Danish Jews to be arrested and deported. In a collective effort, more than 7,000 Danes of Jewish descent were sailed to safe haven in nearby neutral Sweden. Several events this fall, in both Denmark and the US, commemorate the rescue of the Danish Jews. One of these is a panel debate, “A Different Holocaust Story: The Many Who Stood Up for the Few” co-organized with SAIS and the Embassy of Sweden in the U.S. The debate takes place at Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC on October 15 at 10am-12pm.
