Was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. On December 8, 1980, “John Lenon” returning home in New York apartment in the Dakota, “Mark David Chapman” shot him in the back 4 times at the entrance of the building.
