Today Republicans passed the so-called “Save American Workers Act.” If this misguided bill were to be enacted, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that 1 million Americans would lose their employer provided health insurance and the budget deficit would rise by $73.7 billion over ten years. Under the Affordable Care Act, only four percent of employers are expected to fall under the provision that requires employers to offer insurance to their employees. Four percent! If Republicans really want to “save American workers,” they should spend more time working with us on legislation to create jobs, raise the minimum wage and extend unemployment benefits for job seekers.
