Today Russia held military exercises near the Ukrainian border most likely with the intent of flexing Russian military muscle in the region. One can see these exercises as readiness drills, but also as a move by the Kremlin to reaffirm Russias commitment to back up its actions in Crimea with the hope of deterring any military counter moves by Ukraine. It is likely that any further moves by Ukraine to assert her sovereignty through the deployment of military forces would be seen by Russia as a confrontation with the intent of armed conflict.
