Today, Sunday, is Finals Day at DGC. This is a very prestigious day in our calendar with both the Lewisham & Maxfield finals taking place. The Lewisham Final, played over a testing 36 holes, was contested between Club Captain Trevor Norton & Ian Hewitson. After the first 18 holes Ian had opened a 2 hole lead in what had been a fairly uneventful contest. However, the second 18 was a ding dong 18 holes. After some excellent golf Ian opened up a 5 shot lead coming off hole 22 & was well placed to go 6 up on 23. However Trevor snatched that hole & then went on an amazing run to come off 27 All Square. Ian once again went 2 up but Trevor fought back & went ahead for the first time in the match on hole 33. The pair approached the 36th hole All Square where Trevor, in his Captains year, took the Cup by winning the hole to par. A great final, sportingly played, congratulations to Trevor, commiserations to Ian, well played lads. The Maxfield Cup Final, played over 18 holes, was contested between L Bull/A Harris versus B Scott/M Reynolds. After 18 holes the Final was All Square so it was off down the 19th for sudden death. With the weather closing in & after a gruelling 5hrs of play Harris chipped in on the first play-off hole to win the Cup. Congratulations to Ade & Lew, bad luck to Martin & Brendon. The Hadlington Cup Final, again featuring Harris & Bull, will be played next Sunday from 8am
