Today (Thursday) was my last day diving with NED ANDREWS Ph.d in Hydrology from Boulder, Colorado. We dived at CENOTE CHAC MOOL, my first time this diving season. It WILL be my last time diving CENOTE CHAC MOOL. The water is FULL of NITRATES just below the fresh water level at 35 feet hanging in the saltwater layer. The visibility downstream was 30 - 40 feet from a usual 150 feet+ in the past. The permanent guidelines are coated BLACK. Though not scientifically proven, NED strongly believes because of the BATHROOMS being located on top of the downstream cavern zone and a huge pen of turkeys, geese and chickens of 150+ located right next door, all of the SHIT and FLUIDS filters through the limestone every time it rains. This problem started a year ago. Today, as an example, there were at least 75 people diving the cenote. With that many people using the bathrooms and all the birds pooping all day every day, that is a strong indicator of SURFACE INTRUSION. I am asking (begging) the local Cenote GUIDES to speak with Maria Rosa Kumul and convince her to move the bird pens to another location on her massive piece of property and consider another location for the bathrooms. POR FAVOR!! If the LOCAL GUIDES care about their customers and the cave please convince her to move the BIRDS. Its called GOOD BUSINESS! Photos By Steve Gerrard.
